- <p> DIED. MARY ROEBLING, 89, the first woman to serve as president
- of a major U.S. bank and governor of the American Stock Exchange;
- in Trenton, New Jersey. The widow of banking and steel-cable
- magnate Siegfried Roebling, she took over the Trenton Trust,
- where her husband had been a member of the board, and, during
- the Depression, quadrupled its assets. When she retired in 1984,
- Trenton Trust had become the $1.2 billion National State Bank.
